Saint Albans, NY (October 15, 2010) – Farmers Boulevard will soon reap the benefit of a capital funds allocation from Queens Borough President Helen Marshall. The award is part of BP Marshall’s Commercial Corridor program, and Farmers Boulevard is one of only six corridors to receive capital funds through this program in Fiscal Year 2011. Plans are already in progress to improve Farmers Boulevard with landscape enhancements, security cameras, and renovations of certain City-owned buildings on the boulevard.
“I am delighted that Farmers Boulevard will be the latest addition to the Commercial Corridors Program, which not only beautifies shopping areas and makes them more attractive to shoppers, but also can increase local business activity and prompt additional improvements that benefit residents and retailers alike,” said Borough President Marshall. “I look forward to working with merchants along this stretch of Farmers Boulevard as we create a greener and secure environment.”
“The community is excited and grateful for the Borough President’s investment into Farmers Boulevard,” said Isa Abdur-Rahman, Esq., Executive Director of the Farmers Boulevard Community Development Corp. “Our organization believes that her investment will help local residents to feel more confident about shopping on Farmers Boulevard. We also hope to attract new businesses to fill current vacancies on the boulevard,” he added.
