Farmers Boulevard CDC to host Open House Fundraiser - Dec. 10th

Wednesday, November 23, 2011
Farmers Boulevard Community Development Corp. (FBCDC) is the not-for-profit organization that has spearheaded recent clean-up and redevelopment efforts on Farmers Boulevard in southeast Queens.

“Our organization has stepped up with a great vision for Farmers Boulevard at a time when larger institutions are content to ignore our neighborhoods and our small businesses,” expressed Isa Abdur-Rahman, Executive Director of FBCDC.

Since its formation in 2009, FBCDC has prompted and assisted in such projects as the new Walgreens Pharmacy at 112-55 Farmers Blvd., redevelopment of the vacant triangle building at 113-16 Farmers Blvd., weatherization of the 7,000 square-foot preschool at 109-53 Farmers Blvd., and planning of a new dine-in restaurant at Farmers Blvd. & Murdock Ave.

FBCDC has also organized community events and cultural programs such as the annual Farmers Boulevard Health & Wellness Fair, the St. Albans Community Mural #2, and Farmers Boulevard “green-up” events.

FBCDC has the goal of raising $100,000 by the end of 2011 to support its revitalization efforts on Farmers Boulevard.

“We are aiming to raise $100,000 through a combination of grants, sponsorships and individual donations from members of the southeast Queens community,” Abdur-Rahman explained.

On Saturday, December 10, 2011, FBCDC will host an open house fundraiser to collect individual contributions for its revitalization efforts on Farmers Boulevard. The open house will be held at the African Center for Community Empowerment located at 111-20 Farmers Boulevard, Saint Albans, NY, 11412, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. FBCDC is asking community members to stop by on December 10th and make a monetary donation of whatever amount that they can.

Jacqueline Boyce, Chairperson of Queens Community Board 12, urged that “if we don’t support our own community, then forget about it – it won’t happen.”

More information about FBCDC’s strategic plan and accomplishments will be available at the open house on December 10th and also online at FarmersBlvd.org. Donations may also be made through the web site or mailed payable to “Farmers Boulevard CDC”, 111-20 Farmers Blvd., St. Albans, NY, 11412. Monetary donations to the organization are tax deductible.
