Health Fair Planned for Farmers Boulevard, Queens
Sunday, August 1, 2010
St. Albans, New York (July 20, 2010) - A community health fair is coming soon to Farmers Boulevard in the St. Albans section of Queens. The event is scheduled for September 25, 2010, and it is being organized by the Farmers Boulevard Community Development Corp.
The health fair will raise awareness in the community about such important topics as childhood obesity, stress management, wellness for the aging, prenatal care, access to health insurance and more. On site at the event will be health insurance providers, healthcare practitioners, health services employers and educators.
The health fair will take place outdoors at Mangin Avenue and Farmers Boulevard, St. Albans, and a series of interactive workshops will be held simultaneously inside the African Community Center for Empowerment, located at 111-20 Farmers Boulevard. The topics of the health fair were designed for the 65,000 residents within a one-mile radius of this location, but residents from all over southeast Queens are expected to participate.
"We are very excited about the health fair", said Isa Abdur-Rahman, Executive Director of Farmers Boulevard CDC, "and we also hope the event will give us a better idea of the potential need of a new healthcare facility on Farmers Boulevard...perhaps the old triangle building."
The health fair will be free to the public. Event details will be announced online at www.farmersblvd.org. For information about sponsoring the health fair, reserving booth/table space, or volunteering at the event, please contact Almitra Gasper, Community Liaison, at 347-220-5625.
